Boxing is one of the best workouts there is — it builds fitness, sharpens your coordination, melts stress and teaches you a real skill, all at the same time. At Shin Kick you can come for the fitness, the technique, or both, and nobody expects you to arrive knowing anything. Most people walk in for the first time having never boxed before.
There are two ways to box with us. Regular Boxing is where you learn the craft — footwork, the jab, the cross, how to move and how to read the pads — at a pace that suits all levels. Ultra Boxing is the high-intensity, sweat-soaked side: round after round of conditioning that gets you fit fast and leaves you buzzing. Not sure which to pick? Start with Boxing and build from there.
We're a full-time, dedicated gym with three matted areas and long opening hours, run by coaches who take the sport seriously. That means a welcoming, no-pressure route if you just want to get fit — and a genuine sparring and competition pathway if you catch the bug and want to go further. You decide how far you take it.

What your first class is really like
You will not be thrown in to spar. We'll say that plainly because it's the thing most first-timers worry about. Your first class is about learning the basics on the pads and bags, not getting hit. There's no contact you haven't asked for, and no pressure to do anything you're not ready for.
Turn up a few minutes early in comfy clothes and trainers, and bring some water. You don't need your own kit to start — we'll lend you gloves. A coach will welcome you, take you through a warm-up, and show you the fundamentals step by step. You'll be in a room with other people at all sorts of levels, including other beginners, so you won't feel like the only new face.
By the end you'll have thrown some real punches, broken a proper sweat and got a feel for whether Boxing or Ultra Boxing is more your speed. Most people leave grinning and a bit surprised at how much they enjoyed it. There are changing rooms and showers on site, so you can clean up before you head off.
Why you'll love it
- Two classes in one place: technical Boxing to learn the craft, and Ultra Boxing for a high-intensity, fat-burning workout.
- Beginners genuinely welcome — no experience, no fitness level and no kit needed to start. We lend the gloves.
- No forced sparring. You'll learn on the pads and bags, and contact only ever happens when you're ready for it.
- Boxing-only membership at £60 a month, so you can train the sport you came for without committing to anything else.
- A real progression pathway — stay non-competitive for fitness, or work towards sparring and the ring if you want to push on.
- A full-time gym with two floors and long hours (Mon–Fri 9am–9pm, Sat & Sun 9am–2pm), 10 minutes' walk from Guildford station.
This is for you if…
- You want to get fit, lose weight or shake off stress, and you'd rather hit pads than slog on a treadmill.
- You specifically want to box, not Muay Thai, and you'd like a fair price for just that.
- You've never trained before and you're nervous you'll be the only beginner — you won't be.
- You're after a fast, intense conditioning workout and Ultra Boxing sounds like your kind of session.
- You'd eventually like to spar or compete, and you want a gym with a proper coaching pathway to get you there.

Common questions
Am I too unfit, too old or too uncoordinated to start?
No. Boxing is for all levels and ages, and classes are built so anyone can join in at their own pace. The fitness and the coordination come with practice — you don't need them on day one. Plenty of people start exactly where you are now.
Will I have to spar or get hit on my first class?
No. You will not be thrown in to spar. Your early classes are about learning technique on the pads and bags. Any contact only happens later, when you're comfortable and ready, and never before.
What's the difference between Boxing and Ultra Boxing?
Boxing focuses on learning the skill — footwork, punches, movement and pad work — at a pace for all levels. Ultra Boxing is a high-intensity conditioning class built around fitness and sweat. If you're unsure, start with Boxing and try Ultra Boxing once you've found your feet.
Do I have to do Muay Thai, or can I just box?
You can just box. We offer a Boxing-only membership at £60 a month, so you can train boxing on its own without signing up for anything else.
How much does it cost, and can I try it first?
Boxing-only membership is £60 a month. Your very first class is free, so you can come along, try it and see how you feel before deciding anything. You can also pay as you go at £15 per class if you'd prefer to drop in.
What do I need to bring or wear?
Just comfy clothes, trainers and some water. You don't need your own gloves to start — we'll lend you a pair. There are changing rooms and showers on site if you want to freshen up afterwards.
Where are you and is there parking?
We're at Weyford House, 21/22 Woodbridge Meadows, Guildford, Surrey GU1 1BA — about a 10-minute walk from Guildford town centre and the mainline station. To check class times or ask anything, call us on 01483 578358.
